If you've been hanging around here a while, you may know that the Koh Gen Do Cleansing Water is one of my must have essentials. As a result, I never really fell for the hype of Bioderma, which is not too easy to get in the U.S. When Beautylish launched Bioderma this past spring, however, I knew that I had to try it!
I purchased a medium sized bottle that came with this adorable free mini, and I would say it is quite reasonably priced. Coming in at about $3.85 per ounce for both the regular and travel sizes of the Koh Gen Do, the Bioderma comes out to less than half the price per ounce for the size I purchased, not even including the mini, at $1.18 per ounce! Beautylish of course has the cutest packaging and super fast shipping worldwide, so if you feel like you must get this, it will be on your doorstep in a jiffy.
To be honest, I had quite a hard time comparing the two formulas. Both are quite effective at removing makeup, and both are similar in overall feel. What it had to come down to, I realized, was a side by side makeup removal comparison!
I applied swatches of Kevyn Aucoin The Precision Liquid Liner, Nars Larger Than Life Liner in Via Veneto, and Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Khaki, then proceeded to soak my Shiseido cotton pads with equal amounts of remover. (Yup, we counted the number of drops!) When it came time for the removal, we held the soaked cotton pad on the swatches, wiggled the cotton pad around 5 times, and then wiped to remove. I was quite surprised by the results!!
The Koh Gen Do wins! Are you surprised by the results? I had really thought that the two performed similarly, even on eye makeup, but apparently they don't! Even if it looks like they removed a similar amount of product, the Bioderma seems to leave some product behind.
Despite the results, I will continue to use the Bioderma until I've it all up. I think it still works well, just not as well as my favorite from Koh Gen Do, which I'm certain I'll be repurchasing in the future!
What are your favorite makeup removers? Have you tried Bioderma Sensibio H2O or Koh Gen Do Cleansing Spa Water? I'd love to know!
