Shu Uemura has always been one of those brands on fringe of my radar, just a little bit out of reach. After they pulled their makeup line out of the U.S. and left their hair care available at a very limited number of places, I've wanted to try their hit products. Thankfully, I received their Cleansing Oil Shampoo last fall, and have been loving it since.
At $57 a bottle, this shampoo is the priciest haircare product I've used to date. It is all around luxurious though, and well worth the splurge. I love the pump bottle, and I just can't get enough of the scent, one that Shu Uemura calls "Yuzu Calm" that I find to be quite a sophisticated yet fresh citrus.
Happily, I discovered that Shu Uemura lists the following notes on their website for the shampoo's fragrance.
- TOP NOTES: Citrus, Mandarin, Blue Chamomile
- MIDDLE NOTES: Yuzu, Waterlily, Aqua Notes
- BASE NOTES: Cedar, Absolue Sage, Musk
Fragrance aside, this paraben and silicone free shampoo immediately impressed me when I tried it in a sample packet several years ago. While it does not lather as much as other shampoos and isn't as creamy in texture as my other favorite from Kerastase, this one cleans my hair quite well and doesn't weigh it down. It also makes my hair look and feel soft, and I often get compliments or questions asking if I've done something with my hair! (And brushing it properly counts as something over here!)
Actually, my fiance says (and is not wrong) that I am quite terrible at washing my hair. If he washes my hair, it usually looks much better than when I do it. (What is this magic?) Happily, with this and the Kerastase Discipline shampoos, my hair actually looks pretty good when I wash it too!
This shampoo is easily accessible on Shu Uemura's website as well as from Amazon and Birchbox in the US. Birchbox actually has it listed for $55 right now, and has a pretty decent rewards system even if you don't subscribe to their boxes.
All in all, I've really enjoyed this shampoo despite its hefty price tag. Perhaps it isn't for everyone, but I will readily admit that I save it for the days I'm not rushing or would like to feel a little pampered! Have you tried Shu Uemura's Cleansing Oil Shampoo or anything else from the brand? I would love to know! :)
