Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Foundation has finally launched in the US, and along with it is the new Magic Foundation brush that I didn't even know existed! I picked mine up at Nordstrom along with the foundation, and I thought I should share my thoughts on the brush in case you guys have been curious about it!
I've been enjoying the foundation so far (more details to come), but have mixed feelings on the brush. I jumped on it because I love foundation brushes with this sort of shape. Plus, it is so cute with its rose gold accents!
Sadly, there were a few things that didn't quite work for me. I found that the brush shedded immediately when I unwrapped it, and it doesn't seem to stop. It shed when I used it, when I was washing it, and even after it had been washed. Ugh. I did find that the brush feels a bit scratchy on the skin compared to other brushes I have too, which for a brush at this price ($55!?), is a bit inexcusable.
When it comes to applying product, I do think this brush does a lovely job of applying foundation as naturally as possible. Fans of the Beautyblender would probably like the effect of this, but I found that this didn't help me apply foundation as evenly as the Marc Jacobs brush I've been obsessed with lately. I'm not sure if that's just me, which it could be, but it felt like more work to apply product evenly all over the face.
As you can see, I grabbed some similarly shaped buffing brushes to compare this one with, one pricey and one affordable. The Real Techniques Expert Face Brush is more slanted on one side, while the Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush is flatter. You can see from the photo above that the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation brush is quite dense and has quite a lot of bristles, and is nearly the shape of a powder/blush brush. Still, it is quite small in size compared to my much loved Marc Jacobs The Face II Foundation Brush, and gives a sheerer coverage.
Perhaps I'm missing the memo on this one, but I decided to bring it back. I couldn't deal with the shedding, and I just didn't love how it felt on my skin. Have you tried the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation Brush? Did it work for you? I'd love to know!
