His & Hers: Diptyque 34 L'Eau Du Trente-Quatre

In the last few months, Diptyque released a new variation of their classic 34 scent. This lighter variation, L'Eau Du Trente-Quatre, is a nice fresh blend. I wasn't in love with the scent on myself, and as we were shopping for scents for my fiance, this one caught his eye. Read on for his review!

diptyque 34 edt review, diptyque l'eau du trente-quatre review

It has been a while since I used a new fragrance on a regular basis, about two years actually. I typically select a cologne and stay with it until it runs out, the most recent resident cologne for me was John Varvatos Artisan. Artisan proved to be consistently pleasant for daily wear, but was nothing special, and was an all around very timid and conservative scent.

My philosophy of fragrance selection is rather simple, I will select a fragrance that is subtle  and without any blaring tones of spice or scents that are reminiscent of a men's locker room after one has fought the war on body odor with a can of Axe body spray. If the fragrance is subtle and provides a comfortable scent I am typically open to all sorts of scent profiles and varieties.

After an admirable olfactory odyssey to many department store fragrance counters and boutique fragrance shops I concluded that one of the most appealing fragrances I encountered was Diptyque 34, which is what I've been wearing for about a month now.

To be as succinct as possible of my description of 34 I would say the scent is clean with mellow tones of wood, and I find the scent to be relaxing and luxurious. I noticed that Diptyque markets this fragrance to be used by both men and women, and I would agree this to be accurate, nothing about the scent pushes it towards masculinity or femininity in the order of scents. Its an all around enjoyable scent that both men and women should consider.

Have you tried Diptyque L'Eau Du Trente-Quatre? Do you have a favorite unisex scent? :) We'd love to know!

SOAK UP (LUSH) SUN

I was pretty excited when Lush sent me this adorable citrus perfume. (But really, when am I NOT excited when Lush sends me things, especially if they are citrus??) I was quite surprised by the tube packaging of the Gorilla Perfume, as I don't believe the perfumes in store come with this, but it is so fun that I had to share.

Lush Sun Perfume review

Lush Sun is a delightful citrus concoction composed of orange, mimosa, and sandalwood. I was super intrigued by this combination, as I was recently pleased by the combination of Diptyque's Oyedo and Tam Dao. This one is a much simpler rendition - the purest essence of those notes.

At first, Lush Sun just smells like orange, which I love, and within a few minutes a light sandalwood develops on my skin. The scent is quite light and not intrusive too, which is nice. I think it is a great idea for people who don't want a heavy fragrance or for those hot summers when you just can't wear any sent without feeling overwhelmed.

While it doesn't last on me for more than a few hours, I kind of like that. Sometimes, I'm definitely in need of a scent that doesn't last all day - I'm strange, and sometimes just don't want to smell like anything! LOL. Here is a shot of the ingredients if you're interested.

So there you have it - Lush Sun starts off pure orange, and develops into something a bit more complex. I quite like the scent, and it is very different than scents I've tried before. Have you tried any of Lush's perfumes? Do you have a favorite that I have to try? I'd love to know! :)

This product was provided for review. Lush Sun starts at $14.95 for .3 oz as shown above and can be purchased at LUSH Cosmetics (affiliate link).

♥ Diptyque Eau Rose ♥

Early on in the month, I stopped by a diptyque counter in a moment of desperation. I had avoided diptyque mostly because of the price, and I hadn't yet sniffed a scent that I felt absolutely desperate to have. But I was VERY curious, as so many blogs have been raving about the brand lately. When I walked up to the counter, I encountered the new Rose Duet candle which I am desperate to purchase. I also sniffed Eau Rose, and fell in love. I got a sample, and wore it every day for nearly 2 weeks, until I finally HAD to purchase this perfume.

diptyque eau rose rollerball review

I'm terrible at describing scents, so I'll let diptyque's description from their website speak for itself:

Eau Rose, a totally new fragrance that pays tribute to the queen of flowers, the rose. Forever immortalized by Ronsard’s famous poem “Mignonne, allons voir si la rose...”, it was only a matter of time before diptyque decided to showcase the rose. To get off the beaten track and create something different, the Eau Rose has been conceived to stand out as a genuine infusion of roses. Its olfactory composition is designed to celebrate the multiple aromas of the flower in its natural state, as it blossoms over time. It’s like taking an olfactory stroll, which you savor from morning to night, by wearing a rose that changes as the hours go by and melts into the scent of the person wearing it.

And really, I have to agree. This is the closest scent to a rose, without the "green" aspects,  that I've ever experienced. It is delicate, and elegant, and I'm in love! It really is just intoxicating.

diptyque ea rose rollerball review

For those of you who listen to my endless obsessions over what I'm planning to buy, you may remember when I debated the merits of a perfume spray versus a rollerball. As you can see, I purchased the rollerball purely because I wanted to save money.

I am happy to report that the packaging of the rollerball is just as luxe as the full size. I love that the gorgeous roses are on this generously sized rollerball too. I feared that rollerballs wouldn't impart the scent in the same way, but I love this just as much (perhaps more, as I can carry this with me if needed?) The only thing I found a bit strange was how the rollerball isn't completely full... but it seems that every perfume sample I've gotten from them is like this as well. (Have any of you experienced this before? Is this normal for the brand's fragrances?)

Anyways, now I'm hooked. Today I got a sample of Oyedo, a divine citrus blend that smells like oranges and candy. I'm still anxious to purchase the limited edition Rose Duet candle, and I'm kicking myself for not remembering to sniff the other citrus scents in their collection.

What do you think of Eau Rose? Do you like/dislike rollerballs? What are your favorites from diptyque? I'd love to know! :)
