As a habitual over-packer, I would say I've made quite a lot of progress in the last few years and mostly recovered. Mostly. The one caveat being that I just can't seem to limit my makeup and skincare quite as well as the rest! I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with lipsticks, both the liquid and traditional variety. I love buying them, yet getting myself to wear them is a different story.
