Treat Your Scalp with Lush Hair Doctor!

August 19, 2012

I have an itchy scalp, nearly year round. Yuck. It may have to do with the temperature of water that I use to wash my hair everyday, but I am not good at changing habits, especially in the morning! I saw this at Lush back in June, picked up a sample that I liked, and bought this in July. Like Lush's fresh face masks, this does have a short shelf life -I purchased mine during the first week of July and the expiration is July 29th. For some, this short life span may not work, but I've had mine in the fridge and it was still fine when I used it a few nights ago.

This product has a really fresh, minty scent. To me, it smells like Tiger Balm, but either way, it really helps to cool down the itch I often have in my scalp! As you can see from the first photo, Lush recommends massaging it into your hair and scalp, but I would hold off on putting it fully in your hair unless you have time to spend carefully washing it out. The first time I used this product, I got a lot of it in my hair and as I am terrible at rinsing things out, I unintentionally left some product in and parts of my hair were a bit greasy that day! (Let me just say, I can barely rinse out shampoo successfully on a regular basis, haha!)

Here is a look at the texture of the product. Ew, I didn't realize there was a hair in it, so I'm super sorry about that! All in all, I think this is a great product, even if it has a bit of a learning curve when you first use it. I suppose anyone who has experience with hair masks wouldn't find this unusual, though! I'm excited to try out more hair products from Lush and hair masks in general, and am happy to report that Lush Hair Doctor keeps my scalp itch-free for up to a week at a time!

What do you think of this product - have you tried it before? I'd also love to hear your recommendations for any hair or scalp treatments! :)

Week in Review, 8/18

August 18, 2012

Hope you guys had a great week and enjoyed last weekend as well! I had an awesome time at Yosemite, and we even got some amazing photos of the stars and meteor shower. Here's a shot of our view from Glacier Point as the sun went down - this is just from my phone, so can you imagine how amazing the photos with my Nikon D5100 were? Today we are going to San Francisco to spend the day shopping. We will probably stop by the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market as well!

Favorite of the Week: Again, I was way too sleepy to products this week. The only things I used were my normal skincare items, though I quite liked Ole Henriksen's Sugar Glow Scrub mixed with their Aloe Vera Deep Cleanser. Just Applied: Nothing! Purchased This Week: I went to Sephora yesterday to return something, and I also happened to get the email with the VIB gift as well as my renewal coupon. My boyfriend said I was allowed to purchase some, as long as I was thoughtful in my purchases on our shopping trip today. Limited Buy Status: Spent $21 at Sephora yesterday, which is completely within my limited buy. BUT my boyfriend says I don't have to start that this month since we're still away from home and have a bit of extra money and am allowed to purchase Guerlain Rouge G l'Extrait today, and maybe other things if it is reasonable. Woohoo! In any event, I made it 18 days without purchasing anything, and spent under my limit, so that's great!

What are you doing this weekend?? And please share your favorites, what you've just applied, & what you products you've purchased this week!

Lip Care: Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm

August 16, 2012
nuxe reve de miel balm review

As you might have noticed, I have quite an obsession with lip balms. The condition of my lips is always fluctuating, based on weather/environment and products that I use. My absolute favorite balm is La Mer, but at $50 a pop, it isn't the most practical purchase. I also am afraid to bring it anywhere because I don't want to get it dirty or lose it! After reading so many great reviews about Nuxe Reve de Miel, I decided it could be a great alternative that I can take with me on the go.I think the packaging design is quite pretty, even if I dont love sticking my fingers into pots. (It seems hard to avoid products in little jars these days!) I like that this balm has a bit of heft, but this packaging also means that it isn't something that I can throw into a back pocket. (A jacket pocket maybe, or a small clutch!) I also like that the packaging stays relatively clean of fingerprints & grime in comparison to those super shiny or super matte surfaces. I had heard that the texture of this is different - I agree and I love it! It is hard to describe, but it is definitely thicker and more emollient than most balms. The only comparison I can think of is a really finely ground almond butter, or Nutella, but my boyfriend thinks I'm weird for thinking that. Haha! This balm is also taste free and nearly fragrance free, which is great!

This balm is very hydrating for me, and definitely what I was hoping for. It isn't as miraculous as La Mer's Lip Balm was for me, but I think La Mer's balm took me through a time of very rough lips. If I hadn't had La Mer to heal my lips this past spring, I don't know if this balm would have solved my problems, though I'd like to think so! I think I can reasonably use Nuxe Reve de Miel for everyday dryness and chapped lips, and save La Mer for those extreme conditions or added pampering. Wohoo!

For those of you in the US, I purchased this through the Nuxe website, which has a great rewards programs and many sample offerings! Nuxe is also available at a number of online retailers such as beauty.com, birchbox, and beautybar. I purchased this during Nuxe's "Christmas in July" sale, and I wish I had picked it up sooner!

What do you think? Do you have this product or anything else from the Nuxe line you'd recommend?

August Wishlist

August 12, 2012

Here are my wishlist items for August. I just got the VIB renewal 10% off coupon from Sephora, so perhaps I can pick up a few of the items soon. It's is definitely conflicting - I want to do well on my limited buy, but my boyfriend says that doesn't have to start till we go home... AHHH!

1) Hourglass Illume Cream to Powder Bronzer Duo - Been sort of wanting this for ages, and just realized the illuminating shade would make a pretty neutral eyeshadow too! 2) Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder - Love this, and buying this for sure this month. 3) Guerlain Rouge G l'Extrait - Need to try this on, but loving the shade M65 Paresse 4) Stila Convertible Color in Poppy - Wouldn't have tried this bright shade, but it looks great on lips and cheeks and isn't scary on skin. 5) Laura Geller Balance N Brighten - I like this powder, so I'm keeping this on the wishlist for a time when I want a powder that can even my skintone! 6) Suqqu Cheek Brush - Looks great on all the blogs and Lisa Eldridge videos. Maybe someday I can get one! 7) Guerlain Rouge G in Georgia 62 - Love this shade, and the creamy formula of this lipstick is just amazing! 8) Burberry Lip Cover in Tea Rose - Need to try this on, but seems like just the pink I'm looking for! 9) Le Metier de Beaute Creme Fresh Tint - I hear so many great things about this product and keep forgetting to test it out! 10) Givenchy Ombre a Fleur de Peau Eyeshadow - I love eyeshadows, and this seems luxurious!

1) Marcelle BB Cream - Going to order this someday soon. Keep putting it off because I don't want to pay shipping from Canada! 2) Koh Gen Do Brightening Spa Moisture Mask - Love this, just wish it wasn't so expensive! 3) Badger Anti-Bug Balm - Saw this at the store the other day and really want to try it! 4) Butter London Primrose Hill Picnic - Such a pretty bright pink! Don't need polish now but someday I will get it! 5) Sara Happ Lip Slip - Don't need a balm now, but once I've finished a few I will definitely pick this up! 6) Lush Amandopondo - Love their bath bombs and bubble bars, and I want to try this for sure! 7) Philosophy take a deep breath - Want to try this once I've used up moisturizers 8) Jo Malone - Can't decide between Orange Blossom, Wild Bluebell, and Verbenas of Provence. Hoping there will be some awesome starter kit for the holiday season that will have a variety of scents!

Do you guys have any of these products? Anything you think I should put on the top of my wishlist? And I'd love to hear what's on your wishlist this month! :)
