I love shopping for beauty during the holiday season, so I thought this year I would put together some gift guides... Until I realized that everyone and their mother has been posting gift guides since November, that the sheer volume of great gift sets out there overwhelms me, and that time was about to get away from me. I did, however, want to talk about the growing number of beauty ornaments out there for purchase. I enjoy a good Christmas tree ornament, and I seem to like them infinitely more with beauty products inside!
Read MoreA Collection of Mini Lipsticks
I was doing a little organizing a few weeks ago, and I discovered I had quite a cute little stash of mini lipsticks. If you've been reading this blog for a while, you may have discovered I have quite a talent for collecting far too many makeup minis in a short period of time...
And I definitely can't decide if that is a good or bad thing. In any event, read on to hear about more about my mini lipstick collection!
The Everyday Favorites
I have been a bit in love with Bite Beauty lipsticks, and this stash of shades has been fun to play with. I've been quite impressed with the smooth and creamy formula and range of gorgeous shades. If you have dry lips, I would definitely recommend taking a look at these moisturizing lipsticks.
The Designer Picks
I always love looking at Dior Addict in Lucky, and I've been holding onto the Rouge Dior in 999. For whatever reason, I don't wear these often, but I just love having them in there. Actually, I'm not even sure I've opened the Rouge Dior, the Givenchy Le Rouge in Brun Createur, or the Armani Rouge CC in 400.
The Midrange Selections
Also in my collection are a few fun choices from Sephora that I haven't worn much but have no general complaints about the formula - Stila Color Balm in Vivienne and Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Catfight. Then there's probably the oldest of the bunch, both of which may be discontinued by now, Benefit Lady's Choice and Laura Mercier Duchess Rose.
... Oh, I just realized that I have a few Burberry lipstick minis too that I haven't included, as they live in my Burberry drawer. And in the interest of full disclosure, there are definitely minis of other lip products (gloss, etc) hanging around...
So my lesson today is... stop buying lipstick! I'm not sure I've even finished a mini lipstick and quite a few of these have been waiting months for some love. Perhaps I need to commit to using them this spring?
What about you - have you been finding mini lipsticks everywhere like I have? Or are you actually using them up, unlike me? ;)
Makeup Minis, #1
In lieu of posting about what I wore this past week (aka nothing), I thought I would share with you a little something that has been on my mind when it comes to makeup.
I spend a lot of time thinking about my makeup collection and how I'll probably have grandkids before I make a dent in most of it. I fear for my makeup, as I once told Liz over at Beauty Reductionista. Ok, maybe that is a bit dramatic, but it is mostly true. I have no memory of EVER finishing a makeup product in my life. Maybe a lipgloss or eyeliner in my middle school or high school years - that seems to be a vague possibility - or even that first nice blush I had if only for the fact that I don't know where it is now so logically I must have used it up…
In any event, while gathering all my goodies for the October Sampler, I realized just how many makeup minis I had in my stash. Mini primer? Mini cream blush? Mini lipgloss? Check, check, and check! I think I have a normal person's entire makeup collection in minis. (Ha! That thought scares me a bit.) I don't even want to consider how long I've had some of these things. Mini Chanel Glossimers from a holiday gift set in 2007/8? I know I lost half of them before I even made a dent in them. And seriously, the picture above is only what I have with me - there's a lot more at home where that came from.
Anyway, I'm not despairing, (yet). The thing about makeup minis is that it seems entirely possible to use them up, even for a lazy makeup wearer like me. I have hope, and so I selected a small portion of my makeup minis shown above and committed myself to finishing them. Maybe when I finish some of these, I can feel encouraged to use up something full size. :)
How do you feel about your makeup collection? Is the thought of never finishing anything and letting all those pretties go to waste taking over your brain too? Do you have makeup minis to use up too? :) I'd love to know what you think, and any tips, tricks, or words of sympathy are greatly appreciated!
