As a long time fan of the Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer from Nars, I was super excited to see the brand launch another product in the category with more of a satin finish.
At the moment, the Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint is only available at narscosmetics.com and Barneys, but I picked mine up at my local Sephora a little over a week ago. From what I understand, it (and the spring collection) is supposed to arrive in Nordstrom stores at the end of the month, so I imagine Sephora will have similar timing as well, officially.
While I don't usually include the brand's description when I discuss a product, this one just sounds SO good!

Doesn't that sound SO GOOD?? Yeah, it definitely sucked me in. Well, who am I kidding? The fact that Nars released another tinted moisturizer type of product sucked me in from the beginning. LOL!
I picked the shade St Moritz, which is described by Nars as "medium with a neutral undertone". As you can see above, it is medium and to me, it has always been a more yellow toned shade than neutral.
Whatever magical claims to having a soft focus and look are true as well - my husband has literally complimented my skin or makeup EVERY time I've worn this so far. (Impressive, right?) The coverage is light, but very good for a tinted moisturizer type of product. Those who love sheer/light coverage foundations will love this. It also lasts all day on me with primer, and with very little fading without.
Compared to the Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, the Velvet Matte Skin Tint does have a slightly thicker texture. It has a similar light citrus scent, which I have always loved. Also, I do find that this does a better job controlling oil as the description claims. If you have oily skin and had issues with the tinted moisturizer, then I think this one is definitely worth a try.
I still am puzzled by the shade range for these - I find that St. Moritz is a bit dark for me this time of year, but one shade down is too light and not quite the tone I'm looking for. Nars, please make a neutral or yellow shade that is somewhere in between!! At any rate, I mixed the two together and I'm loving the new shade.
I also shot a quick video to show you guys how the product applies and what the coverage is like. Check it out below - I hope it is helpful!
All in all, I'm liking this product so far. I haven't decided if I like it more than the Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer or other products in my stash, but I really have no complaints yet. Do you plan on trying the Velvet Matte Skin Tint? I'd love to know!
