Impulse Buys: Did They Work Out?

Over these last few years, I've been very good about properly researching and testing out products before I buy, but every once in a while, I see a new product and I just can't wait to get my hands on it.  I wouldn't REALLY call them impulse buys, but not looking at something in person first nearly qualifies in my book!

That often works out well, but I thought I would share my quick thoughts on the two products that recently fell into my online shopping cart and made it through check out before they made it to my local stores.

becca shimmering skin perfector pressed review, korres yoghurt primer review

First, I fell for the Korres Greek Yoghurt Nourishing Primer when I was buying a new cleanser. I quite like the Korres Greek Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial, so I thought this could be a hit too. Unfortunately, I didn't really like it. The somewhat yogurt like scent is fine for an overnight mask, but I just didn't like the scent first thing in the morning, though it dissipated on the face after about 20 minutes. The texture of the primer was also surprising - creamy, rather than the silky or silicone feel of other primers on the market. While this isn't a bad thing, I did find that I could feel the primer on my face - I can't describe it, and I wouldn't say it is tacky to the touch, but I could just feel it on all day and that was a dealbreaker for me. If it made my makeup look super amazing, or made my skin super hydrated, then I would keep trying it, but I didn't find it to be miraculous. Oh well, money saved! Thank goodness for our nice return policies.

All this time, I had been staring at the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed on the Sephora site. It took forever for the Sephora locations in SF and Chicago to carry it, and by the time they had it I wasn't sure when I'd make it to one of those locations. So I ordered it, sight unseen. Yesterday, I swatched this in Sephora, and while I'm a big fan of the original formula, I think this one is far too sparkly for me. The powder is very fine and soft however, so I think those of you who like a shimmery highlighter will absolutely love this!

All in all, I'm glad to have gotten my hands on these products, even if I didn't open the Becca one! (Yes, that is an ongoing problem I have, lol!) Have you tried either of these products? Do you buy things impulsively? Would you guys like to see posts like this in the future? I'd love to know all your thoughts!

Celebrate Honey Bees with Lush Mr. Bumble!

Happy Honey Bee Day! If you aren't busy today, stop by your local Lush store (in North America!) to celebrate with HoneyLove, an organization promoting urban beekeeping and dedicated to the conservation of bees.

In the spirit of celebrating our friend the honey bee, I wanted to show you this adorable little gift package from Lush called Mr. Bumble!

Filled with two stand-out honey products, Honey I Washed the Kids Soap and the Honey Bee Bath Bomb, Mr.  Bumble is an affordable way to get your hands on some Lush goodies. Plus, he's pretty cute, right? :)

Now onto the two products inside! I'm a big fan of bath bombs, so I was kind of surprised that I had never tried this one. The Honey Bee Bath Bomb is a moisturizing concoction of aloe vera, Moroccan Rhassoul mud, and of course, honey. This bomb leaves my skin and the water feeling silky, and I much prefer that to the feel of a bath oil. Scent wise, honey, toffee, and sweet orange oil make this bath bomb quite a treat too! The only thing that I would note is that the mud does leave residue in your tub, so be sure to rinse it out once you drain your bath.

When it comes to Lush soaps, I'm never quite sure what to do with them. Leave them on display next to a bathroom sink? Use them in the shower in place of body wash? I don't know, so I'd love to hear your favorite use for Lush soaps. Anyway, Honey I Washed the Kids makes me think of eating caramels. YUM. Rub it in your hands to create some bubbles (I almost wrote bumbles!) and wash away!

Have you tried any of these products or Lush Mr. Bumble? Will you be picking one up and soaking in the honey? :)

Honey, It's Raining Men! Lush Shower Gel Review

When it comes to food, I am a HUGE fan of honey - put it in a glaze, in my tea, or even on a slice of toast and I'm a fan! I had been hearing about the benefits of honey in beauty products but just hadn't gotten around to trying any, so when Lush offered to send over some honey themed products, I was thrilled!

lush it's raining men shower gel review

As you may know, I'm always up for a nicel scented shower gel for my morning shower, and Lush continually surprises me with the scents that I enjoy! (Eg, Dirty shower gel from my last post!)

This creamy shower gel has such a rich and sweet scent - those of you who love but tire of vanilla may enjoy this, actually. My fiance describes it as Honeycomb cereal and lotus flowers, and while I have no idea what lotus flowers smell like, he appears to be quite accurate as Lush describes the scent as a toffee-fudge with sweet orange and bergamot oils with lotus flowers and honey to soothe.

Consistent with other Lush shower gels, they don't bubble up quite as much as your conventional SLS filled option. On a washcloth, they do seem to be more bubbly than in a loofah, but I have no complaints. I quite like these, and I'm quite content with their bubble factor - I only mention it because my fiance is a even more of a bubble fiend than I am! :)

Now tomorrow is National Honey Bee Day, so those of you in North America can head over to your local Lush store to celebrate! And keep an eye out for some more lovely honey products that I'll be posting about over the next few days and weeks! :)

Have you tried Lush It's Raining Men Shower Gel? If so, what did you think of it? Do you have other honey based beauty products that I must try? :)

Get Dirty with Lush!

A few months back, Lush sent me their Dirty Springwash along with a few other items from the line. I was traveling for work, so I had my fiance dig in.

I'm surprised by how much I personally enjoy this spearmint body wash. As long time readers may know, I'm all about the fresh and sweet scents, and most often my body wash of choice has some citrus in it. However, this mint is also sweet, and it is quite refreshing! Read on for my fiance's review!

I've been using the Lush Dirty Springwash Shower Gel for the last month or so, for the first time. The scent is very refreshing with its spearmint and menthol scent, but does a great job of being not to overwhelming, as can be easily found in other products with the same ingredients. In my opinion I think the scent would be suitable and enjoyed by both genders.

My favorite part is how the scent is energizing to the senses, great for early morning showers, and has you leave the shower with a nice fresh clean feeling.

So there you have it! Will you be picking up Lush Dirty?
