Worth the Splurge? Tom Ford Ombre Eye Color in She Wolf

At the end of August, I was just dying to get my hands on this eyeshadow trio from Tom Ford's fall collection. Everyone was posting gorgeous photos of She Wolf, and I knew that I'd regret it if this little LE trio sold out in a flash and I missed what promised to be a perfect everyday palette.

So I hit check out in a frenzy one night, and I've spent quite a while contemplating this little $60 trio of eyeshadows.  While I'm a fan of Tom Ford's lipsticks, pricey as they are, I just never was convinced by the even pricier eyeshadow quads. None of the quads made me desperate to have them (not for $75!) and every time I swatched them at the counter, they didn't seem particularly impressive.

As you can imagine, this was quite the decision, but everyone said it was wonderful and so I couldn't bear not trying it. I was happily surprised by the formula, which seems to be smoother than the quads I had previously seen at the counter. The formula isn't as soft and creamy as the Burberry powder shadows are, and I find them to be difficult to swatch with fingers. Actually, the formula sort of reminds me of Kevyn Aucoin eye shadow, but don't quote me on that as I haven't spent nearly enough time playing with those just yet!

I'm terrible at swatching, but thought I'd share anyway and show you my favorite combination of shades too. I've used my fingers to lightly swatch the shades below, darkest to lightest. Swatch on far right is shade #2 layered over shade #1.

I love the darkest shade for lining my eyes or for creating the smokiness for a neutral night time look. It is the perfect everyday shade for accentuating my monolid area too. I think this could make a pretty good crease or contour shade - which makes me think I should do some experimenting!

The medium shade is a nice, slightly shimmery gray tone and may just have the best formula of the bunch. I particularly love this shade layered over the darker one, as shown at right in the swatches above.

The glittery shade is my least favorite, though in the pan it is quite pretty. The shimmer/glitter is quite a bit stronger than i prefer these days, and I'm not even sure I know how to apply it correctly anymore. On my eyes, it mostly ends up as little glitters, rather than a highlight shade that I was hoping for.

If it helps, check out this video I posted about a week ago where I apply She Wolf on camera.

All in all, I think this is a nice and versatile neutral palette that you can wear day or night. Even the little included brush works ok in a pinch, and who can avoid the temptation of Tom Ford makeup? However, at this price, it is hard for me to urge you to get it even though I am very happy to have it - it isn't a miracle after all. If the price makes you cringe and you have very similar shades already that you love, I think you can skip this without losing sleep. If these are the kind of shades you've been looking for, then perhaps you NEED to put this in your shopping cart RIGHT NOW! (Haha!)

On the Fence: Nars Radiant Cream Foundation

Nars recently released their Radiant Cream Foundation and I was SO excited to try it as their Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is one my favorite products ever. I've been testing this foundation for a few weeks now, and I'm sad to say that it wasn't love at first sight.

Housed in a small compact, the Nars Radiant Cream Foundation is a super creamy formula, and that is initially what caught my attention. While you can purchase the proper compact with a mirror and a slot for your sponge for $10, I decided to skip it as the product is perfectly usable without.

I love the coverage as well, though I did initially have a hard time figuring out the best way to apply this foundation. In the end, the Real Techniques Expert Face brush won, though I have heard that the BeautyBlender is a good one too.

My least favorite aspect of this foundation, and perhaps a dealbreaker, is that it doesn't fare well on dry skin. I was able to see some dry patches on my skin on some days, and the overall texture of my skin just didn't look that great close up if I tried to retouch my makeup at any point.

Do take a peek at the video below, where I chat more about this foundation and apply it on camera! What do you think about Nars Radiant Cream Foundation? Did it work for you?

A Jouer Eyeshadow Pairing

A few weeks ago, I was playing around with a really quick Jouer look. (See that post here, including a video!) I had been thinking that these two Jouer eyeshadows were similar, and I just couldn't help but pair them together.

Jouer Powder Eyeshadow in Caviar review, Jouer Creme Eyeshadow in Organza review

Of course, they do slide together, and I think these two shades go together quite well. Layer on Jouer Creme Eyeshadow in Organza, displayed on the right in the photo above, and described by Jouer as "a shimmering lavender taupe.

I LOVE the Jouer Creme Eyeshadows - so creamy and easy to apply, beautiful subtle shimmer, and so long wearing too. Check out my original review here. I was quite pleased to try the Powder Eyeshadow in Caviar, described as "a shimmering navy charcoal." Initially, I thought the shades were very similar, but when I looked at them side by side, I still thought they went perfectly together. While I do have to note the Caviar creases in my monolid area about 5 hours in without primer, I think this little combination is a perfect pairing!

Rediscovered: Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint

I recently rediscovered this little sample tube of Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint in Glow. I got it in a Birchbox ages ago, really I think in the first 6 months that Birchbox existed! There was something I didn't like about this sample at that time, and I tossed it in a bag full of samples I intended to give away. Apparently, I lost this bag in the abyss of stuff, but I am happy to have found this sample and given it a try.

jouer luminizing moisture tint glow review

I am quite liking this Luminizing Moisture Tint - think of it as a tinted moisturizer, with a bit of radiance. It wears quite well and doesn't emphasize pores, so those of you who are hesitant to use too much highlight may enjoy this. It doesn't provide a ton of coverage, and the shade match doesn't have to be perfect, but it does quite well to even out my skin tone in a natural way.

Those of you who do prefer more coverage could layer this product with your regular foundation or even mix it in. Think Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector, just a tinted moisturizer version with much less shine. I'm totally into it! Now I want to try the bronze shade!

Here's a video where I apply this and chat about it briefly. Sorry if it is too bright, I am still trying to figure out the best setup in this hotel room!

I didn't realize it was SO bright in the room! Anyway, this is a nice tinted moisturizer that I like to think of as a super subtle alternative to Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector. :) Review - bronzerbunny.com/blog/2013/8/22/jouer-luminizing-moisture-tint BLOG - bronzerbunny.com TWITTER - twitter.com/bronzerbunny INSTAGRAM - instagram.com/bronzerbunny DISCLAIMER: Products marked with an * were provided for review.
