Pump Up the Volume with Lush Roots Hair Treatment!

November 22, 2012

lush roots instructions

I was really excited when I heard that Lush is launching a whole new line of haircare, available in stores this Friday, 11/23. (A perfect stop on your Black Friday shopping adventures, perhaps? If you are not in the mood to venture out, Lush is offering a $10 gift card with any $100 purchase on their website and free shipping.) The line includes a number of hair products that seem exciting, but I was most intrigued by Roots and Superbalm. Today I'll show you Roots, which I am seriously loving for the amount of volume it gives my fine hair. (You can look forward to my review on Superbalm tomorrow! In the meantime, check out all of Dovey's very helpful reviews of the new haircare over at Cute and Mundane!)Formulated for fine hair, this treatment is full of good ingredients like honey and extra virgin olive oil, while mint soothes the scalp. As you might know, I have very fine short hair that definitely benefits from volumizing products. My scalp is quite dry, and often itchy year round, but especially so during this time of year because of the cold weather. I am seriously loving this treatment - the scent is light, especially in comparison to some of the other hair products that Lush has. I don't know how to describe the scent, but it is faintly mint and I am happy that it isn't a scent that sticks around for a day or two. The treatment is light and fluffy in texture, which is fun too - it reminds me of Yoplait Whips yogurt, actually, which makes me smile!

I like to massage this into my scalp, and only lightly into my hair. I leave it in for 15-20 minutes, and rinse it out. I do not think it is as hard to wash out as Lush Hair Doctor, but as usual, rinse well. I'm a rinsing failure and often leave shampoo in my hair, but I am fine with this as long as I pay attention! :)Lush Roots soothes the itchiness in my scalp for a day or two, but my favorite part is the VOLUME! It really is just amazing. Even with dripping wet hair, this gives me TONS of volume, whereas normally my wet hair is just flattened against my head. No hairdryer needed and I've got mega volume! (Though lazy as I am, I wouldn't have used my hairdryer anyway!) I even got compliments on my hair!

My hair has also become quite silky and light, which I didn't even know was possible. This silkiness was immediately noticeable, even the first time I rinsed this out.  Woohoo! Who doesn't want silky, voluminous hair? :) I'm in love!

I seriously think anyone with fine hair or flat hair should give this a try. It just may do wonders for you! What do you think of Lush Roots? Have you tried this or any other hair treatment from Lush? Do tell - I'd love to know! :)

Treat Your Scalp with Lush Hair Doctor!

August 19, 2012

I have an itchy scalp, nearly year round. Yuck. It may have to do with the temperature of water that I use to wash my hair everyday, but I am not good at changing habits, especially in the morning! I saw this at Lush back in June, picked up a sample that I liked, and bought this in July. Like Lush's fresh face masks, this does have a short shelf life -I purchased mine during the first week of July and the expiration is July 29th. For some, this short life span may not work, but I've had mine in the fridge and it was still fine when I used it a few nights ago.

This product has a really fresh, minty scent. To me, it smells like Tiger Balm, but either way, it really helps to cool down the itch I often have in my scalp! As you can see from the first photo, Lush recommends massaging it into your hair and scalp, but I would hold off on putting it fully in your hair unless you have time to spend carefully washing it out. The first time I used this product, I got a lot of it in my hair and as I am terrible at rinsing things out, I unintentionally left some product in and parts of my hair were a bit greasy that day! (Let me just say, I can barely rinse out shampoo successfully on a regular basis, haha!)

Here is a look at the texture of the product. Ew, I didn't realize there was a hair in it, so I'm super sorry about that! All in all, I think this is a great product, even if it has a bit of a learning curve when you first use it. I suppose anyone who has experience with hair masks wouldn't find this unusual, though! I'm excited to try out more hair products from Lush and hair masks in general, and am happy to report that Lush Hair Doctor keeps my scalp itch-free for up to a week at a time!

What do you think of this product - have you tried it before? I'd also love to hear your recommendations for any hair or scalp treatments! :)
