jouer moisturizing lip gloss malibu review

Spring Pink with Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Malibu

May 2, 2013

A few months back, Jouer sent me this lip gloss in this gorgeous bright pink. This shade immediately caught my eye because of how bright and happy it is, and the idea of moisturizing gloss was really appealing.  While this is bright in the tube and looks a whole lot like Burberry Lip Glow in Pink Sweet Pea, this doesn't have the bright, opaque color that the Burberry Lip Glow has. This does provide a nice pop of pink, and is scent free. Filled with Vitamin A, C &E, shea butter, jojoba oil, and pomegranate seed oil, this lip gloss is quite moisturizing. It keeps my lips relatively moisturized and protected from the weather, which is always a plus!

You'll notice too that this particular gloss fits into the interlocking structure of other Jouer compacts, which makes it quite easy to make a "on the go" palette! (If you haven't seen it before, check out my Jouer essentials that I clicked together a while back.)

Though I was hoping for more opaque color, I'm a big fan of these glosses. Moisturizing, scent free, and super easy to apply on the go - YAY!  What do you think of this lip gloss? Have you tried this or any other product from Jouer?

This product was provided for review. Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss retails for $20 and can be purchased from Jouer, Birchbox, Beautybar and Nordstrom. (affiliate link)

I ♡ Burberry Lip Glow in Pink Sweet Pea

March 5, 2013

When promo photos of Burberry's Spring Collection were first released, I was immediately drawn to the hot pinks and bright colors in the collection. When the collection hit counters, I really wanted the Hydrangea Pink blush and the other Lip Glow shades, but in an effort to be economical, I only picked up one thing! Go me!

Since the Pink Sweet Pea Lip Glow is a limited edition item, it seemed like the logical choice for me to purchase. (Though the rest of the goodies will be mine eventually!!) I love the minimal, architectural feel of the packaging, and that hot pink with a bit of purple-fuchsia shimmer just makes me smile!

Like other Burberry lip products, this does have quite a floral scent to it. However, for whatever reason, it seems somewhat lighter than it is in the lipsticks. While I love the formula of the lipsticks and these lip glosses, I really wish they were scent free, as I can't always handle a strong scent in my makeup, even if I don't mind the scent. I also happened to discover by accident that Dior Addict Lipstick in Show is quite similar in color to Pink Sweet Pea on my lips. (Funny, because I was swatching Dior at the counter and was showing my boyfriend, and he just looks at me and says, "that's the exact same color that you're wearing!" LOL)

The applicator is pretty traditional for a gloss - no complaints there. The formula itself  is quite nice too. It may be hydrating for some, but for my very chap-prone lips, it really just locks in moisture and keeps my lips smooth. It also seems like the scent goes away over time, which is great, and it wears for a good 3-4 hours before fading away.

Here's a picture of the Pink Sweet Pea in action! I just thought this was a funny picture, so I had to share. :)And here's a look at me wearing it, just after I applied it. The application could be better if I used a mirror, LOL!

And here's another shot taken with my phone in the car about an hour or so after applying. It is a bit overcast, so the colors may not be great because it was starting to snow! All in all, I love this Burberry Lip Glow, and am so glad that it was my first one! I definitely want Mallow Pink and Fondant Pink now! What do you think of this Burberry Lip Glow? Do you have any favorite shades or any favorite glosses you'd like to share?? :)

Surprise Favorite: Lush Emotional Brilliance Lipstick in Perspective

February 19, 2013

There were so many mixed reviews when Lush released their Emotional Brilliance makeup line last summer, that I just couldn't decide on a shade to purchase. Thanks to the kind folks at Lush, I was able to get my hands on two gorgeous shades over the holidays. (I'll show be sure to show you the other shade soon!)Most of you have probably already seen the interesting packaging that these liquid lipsticks come in - a compact dropper style bottle that I think really stands out in the Lush lineup. These come with a doe foot applicator on the inside, while the eyeliners and mascara have the appropriate wands inside. I think it is quite cute for a makeup lover who wants something different in their collection!

I was happily surprised at the lipstick formula. For whatever reason, I was quite fearful that this formula would dry out my lips as so many liquid lipsticks can. The formula isn't drying, and I found that while it doesn't add moisture to my lips, it definitely protects them from the elements. YAY! (I have to mention that I have very dry lips, that are prone to chapping in just about any cold temperature. Most formulas that others find hydrating are either not repairing or merely hold current levels of hydration for me. Sad, I know)

At first, I also feared that this shade would be too metallic - but when I apply it, I just love this shade. It is such a pretty color for everyday wear, and it even gives my lips some dimension too! To me, it really looked like my lips were plumper! While it may accentuate lines for some, I find that it is true to the condition of my lips.

I applied it here without a mirror, so I apologize for the not so perfect edges. For maximum enjoyment, I definitely recommend applying this with a mirror so you can properly fill in the edges of your lips. Don't be lazy like me! :)

So, all in all, I am pretty excited about this lipstick and will definitely have a closer look at the other shades. I do remember a coral one that caught my eye...!

What do you think of this lipstick? Have you tried anything from the Emotional Brilliance range? I'd love to know!

Lipstick Diaries: Guerlain Rouge Automatique #103 Chant d'Aromes

August 26, 2012

I don't know if you can tell, but I am a big fan of Guerlain. :) I purchased this lipstick earlier this year because I thought it was such a neutral pretty shade. A "my lips but better" with a bit of oomph, at least for me!

Guerlain launched the first iteration of Rouge Automatique in the 1930s so that women on the go (at parties and the like) wouldn't have to use two hands to apply their lipstick. I think this is so revolutionary! In any event, I love the push up packaging of this lipstick - no fumbling around with a cap or anything!

I will have to do a better job on these packaging photos when I can catch the sun, but I did manage to get decent shots of this on my face and swatched. I love this shade - do you see the pinky nude goodness of it? :)This lipstick is not drying, which I love. It isn't moisturizing, like I feel Rouge G's are, but I am quite happy that it doesn't dry out my lips or make them flakey, etc. The wear on this for me was around 3 hours - it didn't make it through a meal but managed decently well through snacks and drinking piles of water. At $35, Rouge Automatiques are cheaper than their Rouge G formula and definitely worth a try!

Long ago in this post, I promised I would wear more lipsticks and share them with you. Here we are months later, and I've managed to collect even MORE lip products. (How can this be?!) In any event, I am still working on wearing them more in general - I think at this point my lipstick collection could last me years!  Here's a shot of me wearing Guerlain Rouge Automatique in #103 Chant d'Aromes!

What do you think of this lipstick? Have you tried this or any other Guerlain lip formula? Please share, I'd love to know your picks for Guerlain lip products or neutral everyday shades! :)
