I've been a big fan of the Surratt Beauty products I've tried, so when they launched a foundation this spring, I was immediately interested. Then I found out it was in a travel friendly tube with a foundation brush attached, and I just about died. Literally half my life is putting on foundation at a red light in an attempt to look vaguely presentable, so... It was like a dream come true. At any rate, I stalked swatches and ordered the foundation within a span of minutes.
The product itself comes in the standard luxe dark packaging of other Surratt products, and it is dispenses with the click of a button like your typical concealer wand (YSL Touche Eclat, etc). It actually didn't take a thousand clicks to get the product out (yay!) and the brush itself is decent in a pinch. My buddy Gummy has a review of this that talks about her preferred application and reasons for not liking the brush, and I agree that the coverage seems to be less sheer and more even if you don't use the brush.
My skin has been a little reactive lately, and each time I wore this foundation, the irritation that developed over the course of the day definitely peeked through this foundation when applied with the brush. I won't say that this foundation caused the irritation though, as I am really thinking my skin has been reacting to hormones or an allergy of some sort that I have yet to figure out. (If that changes, I'll be sure to update you guys!)
One thing I really love about this foundation is that it feels so weightless on. It doesn't look or feel like anything except great skin, which is a quality I always hope for in my foundations. If you prefer full coverage, I would say this one is not for you!
Sadly for me, I chose shade 5 and it is a bit too light for me right now, which is why this is only a first impressions post (I've only worn it a few times) and I haven't included any photos of it on my face. I also think that if shade 5 is too light for me, those with lighter skin tones than mine may be able to find a decent match since it looks like I may have to go up to 6 or probably even 7. Beauty Professor has all the shades swatched, so if you need more help choosing a shade, I would recommend reading her post.
Overall, I have mixed feelings on this one. I love the wand concept and think I would totally be raving about the formula if this shade matched me. However, if I need to apply it with something other than the attached brush, that almost defeats the purpose of it, no? At any rate, I may be returning this one and I think I'll hold off (for now) on purchasing another shade and will revisit this when/if I can see it in person or during another Sephora sale. Have you tried the new Surratt Surreal Skin Foundation Wand? I'd love to know how it worked out for you! :)
