April Beauty Purchases

There's something about Spring (or the hope of it) that gets me in a shopping frenzy. Who am I kidding, I always like to shop, though I had been a little more restrained over the last few months...

I've also done a little shopping of the fashion and fitness apparel variety, but I wasn't certain if I should include that in a video too. Anyways, take a look at the beauty goodies I purchased this month and let me know what you think!

Asian Beauty Haul

If you've been paying attention to my Instagram, you may notice that I'm a big fan of a nice bowl of ramen. Yum. We're always on the hunt for ramen restaurants, but frequently visit the ramen shop at Mitsuwa, a Japanese grocery chain here in the US.

Lately, I've been stalking the beauty aisle and have taken home some fun products I thought I should share!

Hada Labo Hyaluronic Lotion
I'm glad to finally tried this hydration serum after numerous bloggers/readers have recommended it in the past. I've heard it described as an alternative to Hydraluron, which is difficult to get a hold of in the US. I love the water-like texture that helps to add moisture to your current routine. This scent free product only requires a few drops and you're good to go!

Browlash Ex 24hr Water Strong Pencil Liner
I'm a bit eyeliner obsessed so I thought I really should try something from an Asian brand. This particular liner is very black, and the texture is not too hard or creamy. It doesn't drag when applied either, and it wears well on me. I don't recall it smudging at all, though it does crease a bit in my monolid depending on how much I apply. I've swatched it a few times, and it is seriously so budgeproof on my arm!

Dollywink Pencil Eyeliner review, Koji eyelash curler review

Dolly Wink Pencil Eyecolor
After the success with the Browlash liner, I thought I would try another one. I've heard so much about Dolly Wink that I thought it would be crazy not to try something from the brand! I picked up this shimmery champagne shade and have enjoyed using it. It wears only about 4-6 hours on me, but the shade is quite brightening.

Koji Eyelash Curler
I've always had some difficulty with eyelash curlers, but this little curler grabs my outer lashes perfectly and gives my lashes a great curl. I don't know about you, but I frequently have an issue with my outer lashes poking my eyes, and this solves it very easily. I usually use a heated eyelash curler (from Japonesque) and this curler really helps to give them an extra boost.

Here are swatches of the eyeliners!

All in all, I'm pretty pleased with how these purchases turned out. I definitely want to try more from these brands! Even though they are a bit more expensive at Mitsuwa than online, these all come in at about $11-20, which in my mind is pretty affordable. Have you tried any of these products or have any recommendations for other products that I should try? I'd love to know!

African Botanics Pure Marula Cleansing Oil ♡

I've been a huge fan of African Botanics ever since I was introduced to the brand at Space NK last summer, so when I heard that they were launching a cleansing oil, I was pretty excited!

African Botanics Pure Marula Cleansing Oil Review

I've only been using cleansing oils for the last year or so, and while I haven't tried too many yet I do believe this new release from African Botanics is one of the best.

From Space NK:
An antioxidant and omega-rich cleansing oil for dry, combination and sensitive skin. Gently purifies and removes make-up, pollution, dead skin cells and surface impurities without causing irritation or skin dehydration. Minimizes redness, reduces irritation and stimulates micro-circulation. Transforms into a light emulsion when water is added, rinsing perfectly clean with no oily skin residue. Restores skin’s natural balance and gently exfoliates with an advanced blend of AHA Fruit Acids derived from Bilberry, Pink Grapefruit, Sugar Maple, Sugar Cane and Lemon. Maintains optimal skin oxygenation while overcoming environmental stress.

Doesn't that sound lovely? Like with many other cleansing oils, you apply a few pumps of this to dry skin. Then massage with water and rinse. I have to say that I was immediately impressed with how clean my skin felt - often, cream and oil based cleansers leave residue or require a bit of effort to get that clean feeling.

For those who are familiar with the African Botanics line, this product has a different sort of scent compared to the more citrusy oils. I find it so impossible to describe the scent, but it is a bit warm, more herbal and while not my favorite, it is by no means unpleasant. I love how this cleansing oil keeps my skin balanced and not at all dry.

I was surprised to discover that this cleansing oil is 100% vegan and gluten-free too! While I'm not terribly sensitive to that, I still think it is pretty cool. :) Additionally, this cleansing oil is certified organic and formulated without mineral oil, toxic preservatives, colorants, silicone, synthetic fragrances, sulfates, triclosan, parabens, PEGs, PPGs, DEA, TEA, urea or phthalates.

All in all, this is neck in neck with my Tatcha favorite (review) as the best cleansing oil ever. :) For those of you interested in getting a bottle of your own, click here to take advantage of the Space NK promotion ending tonight, 4/22 at 11:59pm EST. (Affiliate Link)

Have you tried this new cleansing oil or anything else from African Botanics? I'd love to know your thoughts!
