This Week & August Limited Buy Review

Hope you guys have all had a good week! I've been busy running around, moving hotels etc etc. I even went to a 49ers preseason game with some co-workers, and I am not a sports fan at all! Did you guys see this new blue collection from Chanel? I got an email about it the other day, and as usual, Chanel collections always make me freak out even if I don't actually want them. LOL!

The collection includes:

Le Vernis in Sky Line Illusion d'Ombre in Apparition and Destination Le Crayon Yeux in Blue Aerien Joues Contrastes Blush in Rose Ecrin Rouge Coco Lipstick in Superstition

The blush and lipstick are not new here, but the other shades are listed as limited edition on Chanel's website. I don't know if this is available in stores yet, or if it is one of those limited release collections. At the very least, it is available on Chanel's website. Please do share if you know more details!

Favorite of the Week: LOVED my Julep nail polish experience and really had fun applying Revlon Stunning on top, a fun glitter that got me through the week! Just Applied: Nothing! Been laying in bed all morning trying to catch up on blog stuff! :)

August Purchases & Limited Buy Status:

Guess what you guys??? I TOTALLY DID IT!!

In case you don't recall, here are the original conditions of the limited buy:

  • Monthly Budget of $25, which can roll over to next month.
  • Excludes personal care items like shampoo, face wash, sunscreen, BUT can purchase only if current products run out.
  • Items that are purchased can only be items on my wishlist. No purchasing random items impulsively.

This month, after gift cards, etc, I spent just $26! I'm shocked really, especially because my boyfriend already told me that I didn't have to start my limited buy yet, and I could potentially buy 2 items up to around $70! I ended up buying a few pricey sweaters a few weekends ago, and decided that I should hold off on more beauty purchases. Still, deciding to hold off on beauty and actually not buying anything are two entirely different things!

Here's what I bought this month: Ole Henriksen Walnut Complexion Scrub Hourglass Illume Creme Bronzer Duo in Bronze Light Revlon Nail Polish in Stunning

Can you believe it? I can't! Haha. Anyways, this is totally open forum to discuss what you're up to, what you're loving, and your thoughts on this latest Chanel collection and my limited buy!

Have a great (long) weekend guys! :)

January No Buy Progress

I just wanted to give you guys a quick update on my January no buy. So far it's been going well, and I thought I'd share a few tips.

  • It doesn't hurt to go out and try products, but bring a friend who knows your plan and can encourage your restraint! Perhaps even a guy friend (or boyfriend!) since they can't get caught up in the hype or sparkles! (LOL)
  • Shop in your existing stash. Rediscovering products is almost as fun shopping for new ones.
  • Think about the price of that product in relation to something else that you enjoy. For example, a $45 bronzer would pay for a nice dinner for me & my boyfriend (or at least a significant portion). Or that $45 bronzer can go to the new camera I'm desperate for, or even a necessity like a tank of gas! I've found that I almost always want the other thing because I already have plenty of makeup!

For extreme circumstances, put away the money & credit cards! Give it to your mom/boyfriend/etc - anyone you trust to support your interests! I unintentionally forgot my credit card with my boyfriend (he's sweet and runs errands for me!) and it has actually worked great!

What are your strategies for making it through a no buy? I'd love to hear!

January No Buy

After such careful editing of my collection and a bit of indulging over the last month or two, I'm ready to commit to a no buy for this month. I can't even remember the last time I completed a beauty no buy, and all the new product releases will definitely tempt me.

To help me along, I am recommitting to the Project 10 Pan I started last summer (which still has 7 products on it ahhh!) and shopping my collection each week for a weekly rotation.

Are you putting yourself on a no buy this month? How do you get through one? Any tips would be appreciated and I'd love to hear your journey too! :)
